About Traits2Lead

Why We Created Traits2Lead

Having experienced both sides of the transition from engineering to management, we understand that being a strong technical contributor and becoming an effective leader require different strengths.

We've experienced the challenges of moving from solving technical problems ourselves to being responsible for the performance, development, and success of others.

We've also seen the challenge organizations face when identifying leadership potential. An engineer may be exceptional at their job, but technical performance alone doesn't tell us how they'll approach delegation, decision-making, team dynamics, or competing priorities.

That experience is what inspired Traits2Lead.

Drawing on firsthand experience in engineering and technical leadership, along with feedback from other experienced engineering leaders, we set out to create a practical way for organizations to look beyond technical expertise when evaluating leadership potential.

The result is Traits2Lead, a scenario-based assessment designed to explore how individuals approach the decisions, responsibilities, and challenges of leadership.

Our goal is to help organizations make more informed decisions about leadership readiness, identify opportunities for development, and support engineers as they consider or prepare for management roles.

We believe the transition into management deserves more consideration than simply promoting the strongest technical performer.
